4.3 The institution makes available to students and the public current academic calendars, grading policies, and refund policies. (Publication of policies)
The University of New Orleans makes available to students and the public current academic calendars, grading policies, and refund policies.
University calendars are readily available at the University’s Website and The University Registrar’s Office Homepage. Of the two listed there, the Academic Calendar is the primary resource for students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. The Administrative Calendar, a comprehensive list of dates for administrators, is available on this site, aimed at the needs of specific audiences.
The Academic Calendar is initially set at least two years in advance. Important dates listed for each semester include beginning and end dates, holidays, deadlines, final exams, and commencement. The 2014 – 15 Academic Calendar is included as a Supporting Document. The Registrar’s Office is responsible for the Academic Calendars and posts changes online as they occur.
The Undergraduate/Graduate Catalog is available online through the Office of the University Registrar website. Constituents without access to a personal computer may access these documents from one of the many public access computing sites to include the University Library and college Computer Labs, as detailed in Comprehensive Standard 3.4.12.
The rules and regulations pertaining to grades are included in both the Undergraduate Section and Graduate Section of the Catalog . Grading topics included in the undergraduate catalog include Undergraduate Grading System - General Information, Suspension of a Grade, Academic Good Standing, Academic Probation, Academic Suspension, Academic Suspension/Dismissal, Academic Warning, Term/Semester Grade Point Average, Grade Appeal, and Transcript of Record. Topics related to grades in the Graduate Section of the catalog include Graduate Grading System, Grade Appeal Policies, Academic Performance Standards, Academic Requirements for a Degree, and Graduate Regulations - Requirements. Registered students have access to their Online Transcript, Grade Report, Transfer Credit, and Current Schedule.
At the course level, grading policies are communicated by the instructor, and this is accomplished primarily through the course management system, Moodle (For a complete description of the Moodle system, see Comprehensive Standards 188.8.131.52 and 3.4.12). Teaching faculty are officially requested to create Moodle courses for each of their course sections at the start of each semester. Once a course is created, instructors and students are automatically enrolled in the course and assigned the appropriate access roles. Moodle is available to any registered user from any computer with an Internet connection and a web browser.
The University’s Refund Policy is posted online by the Bursar’s Office and is included in the “University Regulations” section of the Catalog.
Student Fee schedules are all posted online by the Office of the University Registrar. The Add/Drop Fee Adjustment Policy allows for the full refund of the per-credit-hour fee for the number of hours dropped by students during the first four class days. Applicable student self-assessed fees are also refunded. No refunds are issued for a reduction in credit hours after the fourth day of class.
