3.9.1 The institution publishes a clear and appropriate statement of student rights and responsibilities and disseminates the statement to the campus community. (Student rights)
Findings of the Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee
The narrative and supporting documentation provided give clear evidence that UNO publishes a very clear statement of student rights and responsibilities that appropriately supports students as well as the overall campus community. The statement of student rights is published in the student handbook under the Student Code of Conduct. The student handbook is easily accessible on the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and the Student Accountability and Advocacy websites, but no documentation was provided as to how information about these resources is disseminated to students.
Response and Actions Taken
As noted in the Compliance Certification, the Student Code of Conduct describes student rights and responsibilities and is published in the Student Handbook and disseminated on the University website. To ensure that all new students, including traditional freshmen, transfer students (regardless of credit hours completed) and graduate students receive a copy of the Student Code of Conduct, email notification is sent to all new students at the beginning of the first semester of enrollment at UNO. The Office of Student Affairs receives the addresses of all new students from the Registrar’s office and is responsible for sending the message to each group of students (freshmen, transfer, graduate). The message includes an attached copy of the Student Code of Conduct as well as a link to the Student Handbook. Students are also provided information about the Student Code of Conduct as part of the UNIV 1001 course required for all first-time, full-time students.
