Introduction

In the current online environment, consistent Internet access cannot be guaranteed. As a safeguard against Internet failure, the University of New Orleans is presenting its documentation in two ways:

  1. A self-contained CD
  2. University SACS website: sacs.uno.edu

Throughout the UNO compliance report, there are references to documentation hosted on other websites; for example, the Louisiana State University System and the Louisiana Board of Regents. To ensure that documentation is available regardless of Internet disruption or changes at the host website, these documents have been copied as Adobe® Acrobat® PDF files and placed within the sacs.uno.edu website. As a result, supporting documents may accessed in three ways:

  1. View copies of resource documents, located on the UNO SACS CD
  2. View copies of resource documents, located on the UNO SACS website -- requires Internet connection
  3. View original resource documents located on the remote host site--requires Internet connection
In the footnote area of each PDF reproduction of resource documentation, the URL of the original document, date and time are automatically recorded. This "Internet citation" indicates the origin of the document.

Adobe® Reader® Portable Document Files--PDF

Adobe PDF files can be opened and read using the free Adobe Reader software. Version 6.0 or later is recommended and can be downloaded from Adobe according to the steps, below:

To download the free Adobe Reader software:

  1. Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
  2. In STEP ONE, choose language, platform and connection speed from the dropdown boxes
  3. In STEP TWO, select only the Adobe Reader
  4. Select "Do Not Install Adobe Download Manager"
  5. Click "Continue"
  6. Click the Red Download button (upper left)
  7. Follow instructions for installing the program
In the absence of an Internet connection, the Adobe Reader software can be installed from the UNO SACS CD:

Adobe Page Numbering (Adobe p.#)
Reviewers will see page number citations (Adobe p. #) following references. The reviewer may need to insert that page number in the Adobe Reader page bar to move to the correct information; please see instructions below.

Paging through PDF documents
In Adobe Reader, a page bar at the bottom of the window shows the page being viewed and the total number of pages in the document. The example below indicates that the current page is page 2, of the total 82 pages in the document.

Reviewers may page through documents in the following three ways:

  • To move forward or backward one page at a time, use the "Page Up" or "Page Down" keys on the keyboard, or the < or > arrows on the Adobe bar shown above
  • To move to the first or last page in the document, use the |< or >| arrows on the Adobe bar shown above
  • To jump to a page number, click inside the page bar (example above, click in the area showing 2 of 82) and type in the page number. Adobe Reader will move to that page.

Note that the Adobe page numbers indicated in the page bar may differ from the “print” page number that is displayed in the document. Print pages may include pagination such as roman numerals (i, ii, iii), blank pages, or unnumbered pages. Adobe displays that actual number of physical pages in the document.

Site Navigation:

Links to top-level sections of the SACS accreditation report are located along the left side of each webpage. The linked content will display on the right side of the page, within the same browser window.

Within each content area are links to supporting resources, evidence and other documentation.

The links within each SACS item open content in a second browser window. It is recommended that the reader arrange the two browser windows side-by-side. Instructions on viewing the report using two browser windows is included within this help document.

To return quickly to the top of a webpage, either use the keyboard: while holding down the 'Ctrl' key, hit the 'Home' key, or click on the link entitled "to top" located at the end of each SACS item.

To return to the previous webpage, click on the 'Back' button within the appropriate browser window.

View Documents in Two Browser Windows:

Clicking on a link to any document or website will open a new browser window. After viewing, users must return to the open window displaying the Compliance Certification to continue reading the document. The viewer may wish to maximize effectiveness of the two windows as follows:

  1. Open the browser
  2. On the top menu bar, from the File menu, select New >
  3. Window.

A second browser window opens, in which you can navigate to other documents, without closing the initial document. The windows can be re-sized and re-positioned as necessary to fit side by side. To move a window, click and drag the top, blue menu bar. To resize, click and drag the lower right corner and / or side margin of the browser window, as necessary. The process is the same in both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

Links:

The UNO compliance report contains three types of links, as follows:

  1. Red links access the resources hosted at sacs.uno.edu, and on the CD
  2. The Local Access Only button links to resources hosted at sacs.uno.edu, and on the CD.
  3. The Local Access Only button links to original support documentation hosted elsewhere.
Internet access is required to view any document other than those on the CD.

Refresh Browser:

Occasionally, a web page may not appear as expected; this can be caused by an intermittent problem on the Internet or you may have lost your Internet connection. In this case, it is recommended that you click the browser Refresh or Reload button.
